Is CBD addictive? Can we get addicted to Cannabidiol (CBD)? What do experts or science say about regular use of CBD oil (drops)? What is the opinion of the World Health Organization or even the WHO? Available information, knowledge and data suggest that CBD products are not addictive. Even with long-term use. International authority World Health Organisation says on its official website that the cannabinoid CBD from cannabis has an excellent safety profile. This means, in other words, that it should not pose any serious risk to human health.

Is CBD addictive? Is it addictive?

As many of you have undoubtedly heard, THC is both psychoactive and addictive because it produces a kind of psychic pleasure. Especially if you are a long term (chronic) marijuana user with THC. However, if someone is using marijuana with only CBD or CBG substance, they are not in for any crazy adventures. On the contrary, he or she will feel a gentle relaxation as well as well-being. Neither cannabidiol nor cannabigerol creates euphoria, so one cannot build an addiction to it. CBD is not addictive.

"The CBD substance doesn't produce the effects that we usually encounter with cannabinoids like THC.Themany controlled and open studies of CBD regarding the potential therapeutic effects of CBD mention generally good tolerance with a good safety profile."World Health Organization (WHO)

On the contrary, substances such as CBD or CBG are used in many countries as quite effective, but mainly as natural means to quit other addictive substances. For example, cannabigerol (CBG) can, in the right proportions and in combination with other cannabinoids from the cannabis plant, suppress so-called crawling, which, in other words, is also the urge to drink a little alcohol or light up a cigarette. The application of a certain amount of the active substance can, according to one American research, repair nerve connections that are in a destructive process due to drug addiction.

"Drug addiction is a chronic relapsing disorder characterised by a compulsive desire to use drugs and a loss of control over consumption. Cannabidiol (CBD), the second most abundant constituent of cannabis, is thought to modulate various neural circuits involved in drug addiction."

CBD or CBG interacts with the so-called endocannabinoid system in the human body in a similar way to the psychoactive and addictive substance THC. The difference lies in the way the receptors are stimulated, so there is no intoxication or addiction. In one interesting study from 2017, which was also published in Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence, it says that substances like Cannabidiol (CBD) have a very similar potential to build addiction as pills with a placebo effect. There should therefore be no serious risk.
