What about CBD hemp and THC cannabis in Switzerland? What THC limit can CBD products have there? What about the use of products with high THC content? Is there a risk of imprisonment there? If you're interested in the answers to these intriguing questions, then definitely read on as we take a look at how the Swiss cannabis industry works.

Did you know, for example, that about half a million of the eight million Swiss use marijuana? Although it is not officially legal there, the local liberal culture, which is reminiscent of that of the Netherlands, tolerates recreational use of THC to a large extent. Pot is divided into two basic categories there. The first is CBD cannabis with a THC limit of up to 1 percent and the second is THC marijuana with no limit, which is officially banned. However, they don't make any drama out of smoking a joint in public because if someone is caught in the act, all they face is a block fine. The so-called decriminalisation of marijuana took place there back in 2012.

CBD hemp in Switzerland

As far as cannabis containing CBD (Cannabidiol) is concerned, any CBD-certified product with less than 1 percent THC can be sold in Switzerland. Meanwhile, something similar has been in place in the neighbouring Czech Republic since 2022. This is a huge benefit for farmers and growers of the cannabis plant, because they can leave it longer in the soil or in liquid (hydroponic cultivation) and get even more active substances out of it. They also don't have to worry about an inspection coming back and one of the top cones containing not 0.3 per cent THC but 0.4 or 0.5 per cent.

In Switzerland, sellers of CBD products cannot label their hemp products as medicinal or as having medicinal effects. They also cannot sell them to people under 18, and local authorities warn potential CBD consumers not to drive a car after consumption. CBD flowers are also sold there in regular tobacconists as a tobacco supplement.

THC cannabis in Switzerland

As already mentioned, THC marijuana is officially banned in Switzerland. However, if a local has less than 10 grams in his personal possession and does not smoke too much in public, he has nothing to worry about. As in the Netherlands, Switzerland has a strong liberal culture that tolerates recreational marijuana use. Only those who are involved in the large-scale black marijuana business face jail time. If someone is caught selling, for example, 4 kilograms of hashish with THC, they reportedly face between one and three years behind bars, including a higher fine.
